I thought I didn't like turnips, until I tried them. I guess I always had a vision of Scarlett O'Hara biting into one freshly plucked out of the ground in the middle of the night and getting sick. Then I got some in my Community Supported Agriculture basket and tried this recipe. Now I LOVE them!

Turnips are loaded with vitamins and phytonutrients, yet low in calories - yeah! And if you are trying to eat the rainbow, these are a delicious way to get in that "white" category. I hope they are easy to grow because I just planted a dozen of them yesterday with lots more seeds for another crop later on.

This recipe is easy to prepare, just thinly slice the turnips and onions and sauté them on medium until nice and brown. Notice the emphasis on medium. If you turn the heat too high they might cook faster, but you run the risk of burning the garlic and onions before the turnips are soft and brown.

The only problem I had with this recipe is one demonstrated by Martha Stewart. Some recipes just don't photograph well. What can I say? These are white vegetables that are cooked until they are golden brown. Delicious, but not exactly beautiful to look at. I hope you try them anyway.

    Until next time, happy eating.

Sounds delish! I boil them in my chicken soup and then pull them out and puree them like mashed potatoes - yum! Stopping by from SITS!

I would have never in a thousand years thought up carmelized turnips. The recipe sounds pretty good it may lay over some fresh rice really well. I am a avid gardener so I may actually try growing turnips this year. Best wishes #Sitsblogging

I have always liked turnips, but don't eat them very often. I didn't think to try them this way - thanks!
