Glazed Turnips and Carrots

Easy recipe for Glazed Turnips and Carrots, quickly pan roasted veggie slices in a sweet lemon glaze. Ready in 30 minutes.


  • 1 1/2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound turnips peeled and cut into 3/4 inch cubes
  • 1 pound carrots peeled and cut into 1/2 inch slices
  • 2/3 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon brown sugar or other sweetener
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • salt and pepper to taste


  1. Heat olive oil in a 12 inch skillet over medium high heat. Add turnips and carrots in a single layer and cook for 4 minutes without turning.

  2. Stir and continue cooking until brown on all sides, 4-5 more minutes.
  3. Add broth, sugar, thyme, and lemon zest. Reduce heat to medium low, cover and cook until vegetables are soft, about 8 minutes.
  4. Uncover and increase heat to medium high, cook about one minute until the liquid begins to glaze. Add lemon juice, salt and pepper and serve.
