My son’s kindergarten teacher is having a birthday this week, so I pulled out one of my new Christmas gifts for an inspiring idea for a gift: Gifts from a Jar: Cookies Brownies & Bars. Many of the recipes looked good, especially the Tangy Lemonade Bars, but alas I didn’t have the ingredients. But, I did have close enough to all of the ingredients for the “Ultimate Chippers”.
First of all, I had to change the name. “Chippers” is just so cute it makes me want to stick my finger down my throat. There are three different kinds of chips in it so it became Triple Chocolate Chip Cookies. Not exactly inspiring, but not gag inducing.
I had semi-sweet and white chocolate chips, but no milk chocolate ones. I did, however, have a bar of dark chocolate that was quickly chopped in to small pieces as a substitute.
When writing a recipe, the order of ingredients should be written in the order you use them, and if you add multiple ingredients in the same step then you write the ingredients in descending order by amounts. Since all of the ingredients in the jar are added at once, they listed the ingredients in descending order by amount. The directions then said to layer the ingredients “in any order”. WRONG!!
Even when lightly packed, as directed, there are gaps between the chips that were filled immediately by the granulated sugar, making the whole jar look a mess. Grrr! I should have known it wouldn’t be so simple. So, I reordered the ingredients in the Mix recipe below so it doesn’t happen to someone else.
And as soon as J saw the baking ingredients out on the counter, he wanted to make cookies, so we made a quick batch (sans the white chocolate chips because I used them all in the gift jar). But, at least he put a few of the ingredients in the jar so he can honestly say he helped make his teacher’s gift.
I sure hope Mrs. Peck likes them.
Until next time, happy eating.
