Make your own Homemade Cajun Seasoning Mix by combining a few basic spices you probably already have in your spice cabinet to have loads of flavor ready when you need it.
I like to have a few basic spice mixes in the kitchen cupboard to grab for instant flavor to my cooking. It is much easier than grabbing 8 individual spice containers and adding each one to the dish.
Homemade spice mixes make nice little gifts. Put it in a pretty jars (like these or these) and make a basket with some other spice mixes (like this amazing barbecue rib rub) or kitchen gadgets for a thoughtful hostess or teacher gift.
Make Your Own Cajun Seasoning Mix
This recipe has a 1:9 ratio of salt to other spices, which is far lower than most commercial mixes. Great for those that want a lower sodium option.
Start with the basic mix below and add a little more of the individual spices to suit your tastes.
I left it a bit on the mild side (for my picky eaters). If you want it hotter add more of the peppers, or consider adding 2 teaspoons of white pepper in addition to the cayenne and black pepper.
How to use Homemade Cajun Seasoning Mix
Once you have it mixed in your jar use it just like any seasoning mix. A few suggestions:
- sprinkle it on grilled chicken or pork chops,
- add it to burgers,
- wake up boring French fries
- mix with scrambled eggs,
- use it in Red Beans and Rice, Jambalaya, Dirty Rice, or other Cajun recipes.
