Skip the premade store-bought dips and soup mix concoctions that lack flavor or are loaded with sodium and other preservatives. This Caramelized Onion Dip is a game changer: easy to make, simple, natural ingredients and loads of flavor.
Get ready to add a new staple dish to your party menu. Your guests will eat it up and beg for the recipe.

People who think they don't like onions, usually end up loving caramelized onions. And by people, I mean my husband and son. Cooking them low and slow takes the "bite" out of the onion and gives it a mellow slightly sweet taste.
Combine that with a tangy combination of sour cream and cream cheese, a splash of vinegar and maple syrup plus some rosemary and you have a delectable dip for any party.
Ingredients for Caramelizes Onion Dip
This recipe uses simple easy to find ingredients:
- yellow onion
- cream cheese or Neufchatel
- sour cream
- olive oil
- butter, optional, but it adds richness
- apple cider vinegar, or other mild vinegar
- real maple syrup, (not maple flavored syrup) use honey or agave syrup instead
- fresh chives, dried rosemary, salt and black pepper
Instead of rosemary and chives you can use other dried or fresh herbs like thyme, basil, or parsley. While you can use all dried herbs, fresh herbs add a nice pop of color for serving.
What to serve with Caramelized Onion Dip
This dip is a bit thicker than the onion soup mix sour cream concoction, so you want something that will hold up when dipping. Vegetable crudites are the healthy choice, or some crackers or thick chips like pita chips.
You could also scoop out a small French bread boule and fill it with the dip serving the bread pieces on the side.
