Cool, crunchy and loaded with Asian flavors this Sesame Celery Salad makes a great side dish for cookouts and barbecues as well as Asian meals.

When I noticed an almost full head of celery in the fridge my mind immediately went to this recipe for Sesame Celery Salad.
Mom used to make it when we were kids both in the "too hot to cook" summer time and as a great side dish, particularly with Asian cuisine.
It takes very little time and effort to make, but just note that it should sit for at least an hour to let all of the flavors meld together. Super simple and delicious.
Blanching Celery
This recipe calls for quickly blanching the celery, which simply means boiling for a very short period and then dunking in ice water to immediately stop the cooking.
You can skip this step and use it raw, but I think the celery absorbs the flavors better with a quick blanching while still staying crisp.
Ingredients for Sesame Celery Salad
There are only 6 simple ingredients in this salad.
celery - good old stalk celery
soy sauce - I use tamari low sodium soy sauce
brown sugar - you could omit it or use a substitute, but the hint of sweetness balances the other flavors.
sesame oil - find it in the Asian food aisle of most grocery stores.
garlic - fresh garlic cloves are best
sesame seeds - these are mostly for decoration, the real sesame flavor comes from the oil. Use white or black sesame seeds.

Your salad sounds so good! I make a very similar salad with cabbage, but I never thought to use celery. I'll have to try this. Thanks for the recipe and for the link-up.
