This post is sponsored by Dixie Crystals, Melissa's Produce, Millican Pecan, Nairn's , Republic of Tea and Taylor and Colledge USA, I have received goods to use in preparation of the recipes. All recipes and opinions and comments are my own.
I enjoy making my own spice mixes, including this delicious barbecue rub recipe. What makes a good rub is a hint of sweet and plenty of delicious herbs and spices for layers of flavor. But, opening all of the containers and measuring out the ingredients can be a bit of a pain.
The easy solution? Use tea instead of, or in addition to, the herbs and spices. Just think of the flavor combinations! And all you have to do is cut open the tea bag, or scoop out some loose tea and mix it with brown sugar.
I used some Hot Apple Cider tea that has bits of cinnamon and apples along with cloves and ginger. It is the prefect accent to the pork chops.

A simple recipe deserves the best ingredients, and this one uses two of my favorite brands, Dixie Crystals and Republic of Tea.
Dixie Crystals
Dixie Crystals has been the only sugar in my house for years now. I am a firm believer in pure cane sugar versus beet sugar. And that's what Dixie Crystals is.

Recipe
Ingredients
- ¼ cup brown sugar (packed)
- 1 bag Apple Cider Tea (or equivalent loose leaf tea)
- ½ teaspoon granulated garlic (more or less to taste)
- 4 pork chops
Instructions
- Preheat gas grill or oven to 375°F.
- In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, contents of the tea bag and garlic.
- Rub a tablespoon of the mix on all sides of the pork chop.
- Grill over medium high heat or bake in the oven until internal temperature reaches 145°. Cooking time will vary based on the thickness of the pork chops and if they have a bone. A ½ inch think boneless pork chop only needs about 5 minutes a side while a 1½ inch thick bone in chop will need about 15 minutes per side.
