When one of my oldest and dearest friends posted she was going to miss the family holiday, her family quickly replied that her signature Clam Dip would be missed. Ha ha! Well, you know I had to beg for any recipe that produces a reaction like that. Luckily, Shan was quick to oblige me.
Like most dip recipes, this Clam Dip is incredibly simple to make and it definitely benefits from being made ahead of time. Consider the 1 hour below a bare minimum. If you are serving it for a party, make it the night before.
Can you use fresh clams?
If you've got them, by all means use them! While most of us would just be going for the convenience of canned, you can enjoy the extra fresh flavor and texture. Instead of thinning with the excess clam juice, use a little milk if needed.
Ingredients for Clam Dip
Every ingredient can be found at your local grocery store.
- chopped clams (look in the canned seafood aisle)
- cream cheese
- sour cream
- fresh garlic cloves, yes fresh is best
- Worcestershire sauce
- freshly ground pepper
For serving choose between potato or tortilla chips, fresh veggies, or a bread bowl with bread dippers.
The amounts below are a general guideline. Adjust them to your tastes. If I am serving this to my family, it would be 5 cloves of garlic, but I'd only use half of that for my husband and son.

Recipe
Ingredients
- 3 cans chopped clams (6.5 ounce size)
- 2 packages cream cheese (8 ounce size)
- 2-3 tablespoons sour cream
